About Us

Vision

Designed and run by the School of Kinesiology, UBC BodyWorks members enjoy an inspiring, supportive community that promotes health for every body and ability. The BodyWorks philosophy of exercise program delivery is to provide unparalleled fitness programming services for adults across the age span that blend athletic training principles with chronic disease and risk management and prevention where appropriate.

Mission

To develop and deliver exceptional evidence-based fitness programs and services that educate and inspire to enhance wellbeing, while facilitating excellence in student leadership and mastery of skills.

Overview

The UBC BodyWorks Fitness Centre is UBC Vancouver’s only adult-oriented fitness facility focused on evidence-based practices.  In a non-competitive, supportive environment UBC staff, faculty and the public find health and fitness in our programs. In addition to our UBC location, specialty fitness classes such as Changing Aging and Fit Over 50 are taught by UBC BodyWorks fitness instructors at Dunbar and Kerrisdale.

We currently offer fitness classes: spin, Fit Over Fifty, Changing Aging, and Community Fit, drop-in fitness, personal training, fitness assessments, clinical exercise workshops, health seminars, corporate workshops and a variety of gym memberships. All of the programs are run by certified, friendly students or graduates of the School of Kinesiology with specialized knowledge in working with athletes, aging or chronic disease populations and love to make movement fun.

Student Engagement & Staffing

UBC BodyWorks is a community engagement and student development program of the School of Kinesiology, offering employment, professional development, leadership and volunteer opportunities for the undergraduate, graduate and alumni of the School of Kinesiology. Certified Group Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers who are also Kinesiology students and alumni lead our members towards fitness goals using evidenced-based practices in a motivational atmosphere.
